Saturday – Question & Answer
Question #1. I have been separated for more than ten years. Can I divorce him and ask God for a new husband?
Answer #1. Separation means that you are still married to your husband.
In Malachi 2:16, God says that He hates divorce. Considering this important principle let’s go over verses that discuss marriage.
1Cor.7:39 LB “The wife is part of her husband as long as he lives; if her husband dies, then she may marry again, but only if she marries a Christian.”
Statistics show that within a year after a divorce, 75% of the women usually feel they made a big mistake.
Also the statistics show that 10 years after divorce, the percentage is even higher that the couple wishes they had not divorced.
1Cor.7:10-13 “And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, let not the wife depart (separate) from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife (divorce). If any brother (christian) hath a wife that believeth not (is unsaved), and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away (divorce her). And a woman which hath a husband that believeth not, if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.”
God desires our marriage to work.
In Malachi 2, it says that your marriage is his “holy institute” and he loves it!
1Cor.7:15 “But if the unbelieving depart (separates), let him (or her) depart. A bother or sister (Christian) is not under bondage in such cases: but (nevertheless) God hath called us to peace“.
If a troubling unbelieving spouse leaves, we can interpret it as God giving you the opportunity to have peace.
In Matt.19:8, Jesus says that Moses addressed divorce because of the “hardness of our hearts.”
In other words, this can be interpreted as though he allows divorce because your heart is hard towards your spouse.
Trust God to continue to give you peace and strength to do His will in your life.
Be sensitive and obedient to God’s Holy Spirit.
You can lead a fulfilling and purposeful life in Christ and still glorify God separated till he returns.
