STICK WITH THE TRUTH

STICK WITH THE TRUTH

LIFE HAS A WAY OF EDITING THE TRUTH of Scripture.  Imagine what happens, for example, when a daughter says through tears that her Christian husband is verbally abusing her and her children.

“Daddy,” she sobs, “I don’t know how much longer I can take this!”  At that moment we would do anything to free her from her pain.  “After all,” we conclude, “wouldn’t peace be better for the kids than hostility?”

If we react only with our hearts, however, we may forget about God’s Word and resort to the world’s solution—divorce.  It’s in these real life situations that the truth of  Scripture can too easily be set aside for immediate peace and the expediency of life.  If we let it, life can indeed edit Scripture.

The prophet Micaiah refused to cave in like this.  He insisted on speaking the truth of God, regardless of how much pain it caused him.  “As the Lord lives,” he declared, “whatever the Lord says to me, that I will speak” (1kings 22:4)

I’m not trying to dismiss this problem by giving a cut-and-dried theological answer.  I believe parents can and should seek help from law enforcement officials if a son or daughter is in physical danger.  We can encourage our married children to seek godly counsel for a troubled marriage.  But we must not rush to accept the world’s solutions and ignore truth of God’s Word.  His counsel is sure and life giving.  Our compassion and advice must be informed and guided by all the truth of Scripture.

Hi sister Nancy. Once again God is speaking to me in regardss to a specific theme. Through a message i heard and also now this post. Because in dealing with a person in my church who is suffering and a verse that was quoted caused her pain. However, it is what it is I would love to just make lifes lessons simple for people.(as you know) need to love and encourage the people God brings to us, in their walk with God. However never to change God’s truth. It is difficult but thankfully the Precious third person of the trinity guides and directs us. and the people of God too. causing us to triumph in all things.

I ment as Pastors (this is were i interjected) “you would know) we would love to help God’s people through their trials with as little pain as possible. but never a the cost of misrepresenting what God’s word says. So thank you for your post and thank you Lord for the direction. He gives us wisdom to lead his people through these hard places. Love you.

Hi Martha! I am glad you pointed that out. I need to type that this post was taken from an article. But you are right. As pastors you have to stick to God’s work and only what God is addressing you to say. I always ask God to help me with what He wants me to say. Sometimes it is so easy to say what I feel. Feelings are so disruptive and they also want to guard the persons we love. Thank God for His precious Holy Spirit!
