GO FOR UNCOMMON COURTESY
A woman is the crown jewel of God’s creative handiwork. We husbands should be careful not to treat her like one of the guys. Remember, the majesty of God is displayed in your wife. Why not exalt her by demonstrating some courtesy?
You remember courtesy! You extended it all the time during your courtship–opening doors, helping her to get her coat on, patiently waiting while she applied her makeup. Remember?
“Yeah,” you say, “but that kind of stuff was just for the dating period.” Not so fast! Actually, courtesies are a great way to demonstrate respect and distinction over the long haul. Courtesy is at the heart of servanthood; it says, “My life for yours.” It bows before another to show esteem and dignity.
Your wife wears many hats. For the family she is the meal planner, , nurse, counselor/comforter, teacher, spiritual adviser and so on. For you she is lover, confidant, companion, advisor, , encourager–the list goes on. She’s well worth those “old courtesies,” even more now than when the two of you were dating.
(Warning: If you suddenly begin extending a rash of old courtesies, you may need to alert the emergency medics to get some smelling salts ready!)
