MARRIAGE MIRRORS GOD’S IMAGE
After God created the earth and the animals, He said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” The account then continues, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Gen.1:26,27).
God’s first purpose for creating man and woman and joining them in marriage was to mirror His image on planet earth. Focus your attention on those words, mirror His image. The Hebrew word for mirror means to relect God, to magnify, exalt, and glorify Him.
God intends for your marriage to reflect His image to a world that desperately needs to see who He is. That’s why your mirror needs constant polishing in the light of His Word. Because you are created in the image of God, people who wouldn’t otherwise know what God is like should be able to look at you and your relationship with your spouse and get a genuine, awe-inspiring glimpse of the divine.
