THE PRICE OF GREATNESS

THE PRICE OF GREATNESS

Would you like to have a great marriage?  Would you like to look back on your fiftieth anniversary and say, “That was great“?  If so, you should listen to Winston Churchill..

“The price of greatness,” he once said, “is responsibility.”

Great marriages don’t just happen.  They are not the automatic result of two well-matched people coming together.  Good marriages are the product of two people who take full responsibility for the quality of their union.

As you aim for greatness in your marriage, you’ll come face to face with great responsibilities–and with that comes pressure.    You can either let that pressure move you into greatness, or allow it to blast your union apart.

I like how Abraham Lincoln responded to these two truths.  Abe earned his greatness by taking responsibility and handling pressure.  While locked in conflict with the congress, he once looked out of his window at the Capitol building and I said ” I have been told I was on the road to hell, but I had no idea it was just a mile down the road with a dome on it.”

Who said serious had to be grim?
