COMMANDED TO MULTIPLY

COMMANDED TO MULTIPY

GOD TOLD ADAM AND EVE to “be fruitful and multiply” (Gen.1:28).  Later, the psalmist wrote, “Behold , children are a heritage from the Lords, the fruit of the womb is a reward…Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate” (Psa.127:3,5).

We believe it is very clear in Scripture that God wants–even commands– married couples to have children.  Of course, there are extenuating circumstances that can cause couples to be childless, but the scriptural norm is for us to “be fruitful and multiply.”

Why?

We don’t believe we’re commanded to have children just to have children.  We believe God wants us to have children so that we can multiply a godly heritage, so that there will be new believers (and we are to make sure we do everything we can to encourage our children to fear and love God) to take the message of salvation to this world’s next generation.

Children are a blessing to those who have made a lifetime commitment to marriage.  But they are also messengers to a world that needs to hear God’s message of love and salvation.

When I was pregnant from my son Danny Jr. I remember there was a lady that I believe was a devil worshiper and when she heard that I was going to have a baby she was furious I thought why does she even care. She’s not going to raise the kid me and my husband are! Then the Lord showed me clearly that it was because my offspring were going to be great for God and that they were going to be kingdom builders and the enemy could see what was coming. So I totally agree with you Sister Nancy that our children are born for a purpose to spread God’s message to this next generation. God Bless

Hi Barbara! Amen. Let’s not give up praying for them and supporting them. Let’s claim back the ones who have fallen.

Amen sisters…When I was pregnant with my son. I was only 25yrs old and the doctors insisted in me taking a CA125 test (genetics blood test). When they came back with my results they told me my son was going to be down syndrome. I was OK with it but they insisted for me to go to a genetics counselor. I did and that person told me I had to have an abortion because it was a lot of trouble raising a down syndrome child. At that time I was not active in the things of GOD but I knew GOD because I had accepted Christ back when I was 16. When she said that I stood up and said. You are not GOD I trust GOD and if he wants to give me a down syndrome child its because I could handle it so I will take my child the way he is and live. I went home and cried and cried. They insisted for days but I never gave in…My son was born perfectly fine and he is very smart little man. PRAISE GOD. I know he has good things in store for my son. I know he will be serving the LORD.

Hi Gabby! I know what you mean. When I was pregnant at 40 years old, they sent me to Genetic counseling. They did everything to talk me out of having this baby because my chances were very high it would be down syndrome or deformed. I told them the same as you said. I told them that God put this baby in me and He would have to deal with it. I had a healthy baby girl who is a blessing to my life and to my husbands. Thanks for your comment.
